Oregon...
The first European settlers to set foot on what is now Oregon sailed here when they were coming to America in search of a northwest passage. Many people have heard of the Oregon Trail which started when settlers traveled to the area in wagons in the 1840s. they followed the missionaries that had migrated there in the 1830s. People that are not familiar with the history of the Oregon trail but have heard of it may be more familiar with the well known computer game that is actually based on the lives of settlers moving out west. Oregon was the 33rd state to become part of the Union in 1859.

Much of the land in Oregon in naturally beautiful and many people visit to see Crater Lake National Park and enjoy life on the Columbia George River. It has mountainous areas that are covered in vast forests which make Oregon the largest producing state of wood products. The state flower or Oregon is the Oregon grape and the state tree is the Douglas-fir. The capital of Oregon is Salem while the largest city is Portland. Oregon is known best for its fresh seafood and fish markets. If you ever go there, be sure to stop in a fish market to see them literally throwing fish to the customers as they order!
