New Jersey...
New Jersey is one of the first thirteen states and it joined the union in 1787. Years earlier, in 1524, the first person to explore the land was Giovanni da Verrazano of Italy. The state gets its name form the an island located in the English Channel that is called Jersey. Much of the land in New Jersey is very fertile and great for farming, which is why it has been given the nickname of the “Garden State.” In history, Hessian Soldiers were stationed here during the Revolutionary War but General George Washington and his troops crossed the Delaware river to defeat them in the battle of Trenton. Trenton is now the capital of New Jersey and the largest city is Newark.

Tourists head to New Jersey to go to the “Jersey Shore” and Atlantic City which resembles Las Vegas, just on a much smaller scale. Atlantic City is a Resort town where most of the resorts have casinos, shows, shopping, and night clubs. There is a boardwalk with rides for anyone not interested in or old enough to gamble. Donald Trump owns a number of the hotel and casino resorts here and even holds the Miss America pageant here almost every year.
