New Hampshire...
This state was named after the county of Hampshire in England and was one of the original thirteen colonies. It entered into the Union as a State in 1788. It’s nickname is appropriately the “Granite State” because of the many granite quarries. With the history of a frugal government and it’s attachment to tradition, it just goes to show that “Granite State” is indeed a good nickname for New Hampshire. The state motto is “Live free or die,” and this is evident in the fact that there are no individual income taxes collected or general sales.

New Hampshire is a fairly small state but it plays a big role in our country’s government. This is where the primary presidential elections are held every four years. It seems as though this state likes purple as it’s state bird is the purple finch, the purple lilac is the state flower. The capital of New Hampshire is Concord but the largest city is Manchester. The highest point in the state can be found at Mt. Washington.
