Kentucky is also known as the “Bluegrass State and it was the 15th state to be admitted into the union in 1792. It was a quite a few years before that in 1769 when many frontiersmen, including Daniel Boone, came to settle into the area. Kentucky was actually the very first state to be admitted into the Union that was situated west of the Appalachian Mountains.

Kentucky is well known for its coal mines but more so for its horse farms and horse racing. Most people have heard of the Kentucky Derby, the most prestigious horse race in America, and it is held every year in Louisville. The goldenrod is Kentucky’s state flower and the state tree is the tulip poplar. The capital of Kentucky is Frankfort and the largest city is Louisville. You may have heard of the Louisville Slugger baseball bats.
