Connecticut, also known as the “Constitution State,” was one of the original thirteen colonies, or states and became part of our great Union in 1788. The name Connecticut comes from a word that means “land on the long tidal river,” which comes from an old Algonquin Indian tribe. The state flower of Connecticut is the mountain laurel and the state tree is the white oak tree. The capital of Connecticut is Hartford and that is the largest metropolitan area but the actual largest city is Bridgeport. Although Connecticut is its own state, the southwestern most areas of Connecticut are actually considered part of the New York Metropolitan Area.

Connecticut hosts a great variety of recreational activities for its residents and visitors such as boating, camping, fishing, hunting, hiking, biking; the outdoor possibilities of fun are endless. There are a number of state parks and forests in which you can participate in these activities such as, the Rocky Neck State Park, the Harkness Memorial State Park, and the Hammonasset beach State Park, which is right on the Atlantic Ocean.
